Getting Outlook to send and receive
Ever have an account in Microsoft outlook setup by the IT guy or past assistant and find it doesn't do what you ask? Like get and send emails. Here's the answer you're looking for. Answer a few questions like, 1. What service provides my email account? a: Its not outlook, outlook is a software that sends/receives email and stores contacts. The key to this answer is what comes after the @ symbol in your email address? ex. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it typically this is your website (@domainname.com), but often times it is a company domain or a free online service Here are some popular ones: @ -yahoo.com -msn.com -gmail.com -aol.com -century21.com (etc.) Now that we know what service provides your email: 2. Does my email service support POP3 accounts? But whats a POP3 account you ask? a: POP3 is an email format able to be read by various email software including MS Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Apple iMail. It is also the format that you will need in order to send/receive through Outlook. If your service is provided by your real estate office you will need to contact a staff member that oversees the technical support, specifically over email. Once you have their attention, ask them " What are the POP3 & SMTP addresses for your email? " You'll get a puzzled face look at first like "wow, you knew what to ask for" - but the answer should look something like (ex.) mail.server.com, pop.server.com, and/or smtp.server.com & just replace "server" with name of service in most cases. You will need this information to setup outlook correctly.
